For my blogs, I went with Blogger. It's free and relatively user friendly. My understanding is there are more customizable options out there, but I found Blogger fine for my purposes. I don't know what more advantages would come with a paid site, but I would suggest going with a free option. no need to pay cash for something if you don't need to.
